Vettikkavala Block Panchayat is one of the major rural development centres in Kollam District, Kerala. Established as part of the decentralized system of local self-governance, the Block Panchayat has been playing a significant role in promoting comprehensive regional development and implementing various welfare initiatives for the benefit of the people.
As one of the thirteen Block Panchayats in Kollam District, Vettikkavala Block Panchayat is committed to the social and economic advancement of rural communities. At present, the Grama Panchayats of Kulakkada, Mylom, Melila, Pavithreswaram, Ummannoor, and Vettikkavala fall under its jurisdiction.
Vettikkavala is a region of considerable historical and cultural significance. The area is known for its ancient temples, remnants of the erstwhile royal administration, rich agricultural heritage, and vibrant cultural traditions. Historical records and local traditions suggest that the name “Vettikkavala” originated from a prominent ancient tree known locally as the “Vetti” tree, which once stood in the region.
